Chattanooga

July 6- “Snakes in your backyard” Chattanooga Nature Center. 2:00 PM Meet the snakes that live right in your backyard. Snakeskins, reptile eggs, and other artifacts will be available for viewing. Call 423-821-1160, ext. 0 for more information.

July 12- The Disabled American Veterans will hold a car show the second Saturday of each month at Bradley Square Mall. The show will start at 5:00pm.  The all day annual car show will take place Saturday, October 11 starting at 9:00am. For more information call 423-476-4467.

July 12- Kayak sunset paddle 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. Launching kayaks at Coolidge Park, tour the heart of Chattanooga on the Tennessee River. We will paddle past downtown landmarks and around Maclellan Island, a beautiful bird sanctuary where large blue herons roost at sunset. Hosted by the Tennessee Aquarium. July 25- “Bat watch” Chattanooga Nature Center Starts at the Nature Center with a presentation followed by a visit to the Nickajack Cave, home to 60,000 endqangered gray bats. Call 423-821-1160, ext. 0 for more information.

July 29- 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. The Tennessee Aquarium invites you to capture fabulous Macaroni and Gentoo penguins on film in Penguins' Rock, as well as tropical butterflies and stunning marine life in both Aquarium buildings. Begin with a discussion of composition, and lighting, how to photograph subjects in motion and how to handle reflection. Then focus on your favorite subjects, as Tom and Pat provide hands-on advice about setting up the perfect shot. Photographers are welcome to bring their favorite camera or camcorders. Collinsville

Every Saturday:  Collinsville Trade Day  Come to the historic town of Collinsville and experience the largest outdoor market in the
south.  We have more than you could possibly see on a Saturday, so plan to come back again and again.  When you get here you
will find all kinds of antiques, collectibles, children's toys and clothes, work clothes and boots, fishing gear, fresh fruits and vege-
tables, furniture, tools and a whole lot more.  Collinsville is located on US Highway 11 halfway between Gadsden and Fort
Payne, Alabama.  We are located 3 miles from I 59.

Tigers For Tomorrow has extended its hours of operation to accommodate families for Spring Break. The preserve will provide guided tours at 2:00 daily on Thursday and Friday $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for children 4-11. We will remain open to the public on Saturdays and Sunday for a walk about from 9-4pm. A walk about is unguided and allows you to stroll at your leisure. Private tours are also available for groups of 4 or more, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday by appointment only. Private tours are guided, and a great way to learn the stories behind each animal. Donation requested for a private tour is $25.00 per person and the tour take approximately one and a half hours. Tigers for Tomorrow at UNTAMED MOUNTAIN is home to over 40 large carnivores and many other exotics and farm animals. 

FORT PAYNE

July 11-7:00 p.m. Desoto State Park, CCC Pavilion “Introduction to Musical Instruments in Story & Song.” Join musician Tony Thomas for this interesting program introducing acoustic instruments such as the fiddle, guitar, mandolin, and banjo by using stories & songs to give you an appreciation for each instrument. No fee/Bring your instrument if you wish!

July 12- 7:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m.Desoto State Park, CCC Pavilion. Little River Canyon Center: Construction Update with Pete Conroy, Director of the JSU Field Schools (Little River Canyon Field School) will present this exciting update on the progress of the new Little River Canyon Center which is being built on Hwy 35 near Little River Falls and is scheduled to open in 2009. No fee.

July 18- 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Desoto State Park, CCC Pavilion “Ecology of the Canyon,” for Children. A program geared toward introducing children to local environmental issues presented by National Park Ranger Larry Beane. No fee.

July 19- Native American Pottery Workshop 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon & 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m., DeSoto's Picnic Area. Join expert potter, Tammy Beane, to learn how pottery was made on Lookout Mountain thousands of years ago. We’ll provide the clay as well as bone needles and paddles to make designs on your pots. $10 per person, but be sure to register.

July 19- 8:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Desoto State Park’s CCC Pavilion: “13 Ways Not to Die at Little River Canyon.” As part of the NPS safety program, National Park Interpreter, Larry Beane, will share stories of the rescues, misadventures, and deaths that occur every year in and around Alabama's deepest gorge. No fee.

July 25-  8:00 p.m. - 9:00p.m. Desoto State Park’s CCC Pavilion. “Fly Fishing Techniques.” Join Dr. Chris Murdock to learn the basics of fly fishing (and join him on Saturday morning to try out your skills)! No fee.

July 26-  8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Desoto State Park’s CCC Pavilion. “More about Fish!” You might be amazed at what's swimming down in the river! JSU biologist Dr. Chris Murdock will have you hooked!

GADSDEN
